To the Discovery of the (In)visible World of Plankton

The activities for disseminating knowledge about plankton biodiversity with schools and associations across the national territory have started.

Plancton

Within the activities of the National Biodiversity Future Center - Spoke 7, the PlanktonLab scientific communication team of the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station, coordinated by Iole Di Capua and Domenico D'Alelio, has initiated several memoranda of understanding with schools and associations in the Naples area to communicate the importance of marine biodiversity, sadly endangered by threats such as pollution, climate change, and overfishing.

Lessons, interactive laboratories, scientific games, and outdoor activities are just some of the initiatives that will help young people and students see the sea in a new light, with the aim of educating the new generations to protect these precious organisms, essential for the functioning of the oceans.

PlanktonLab also promotes Citizen Science, actively involving the public in the collection of scientific data. Through the use of a QR code for the online survey titled "How much do you know about plankton?" citizens will have the opportunity to participate actively, contributing their observations and perceptions on the importance of plankton. This contribution will not only enrich and strengthen scientific understanding but also engagement in the protection and conservation of the marine environment.
