The seminar is an opportunity to reflect on the themes of biodiversity education, based on the work carried out as part of the National Biodiversity Future Centre - NBFC activities. Presentations will range from pedagogical to biological perspectives, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of the work undertaken. Issues such as the educational value of naturalistic exploration as a useful methodology for building meaningful relationships between individuals and the environment, and the contribution of place-based pedagogy as a way of enhancing biodiversity in urban contexts will be explored.
Speakers will present theoretical reflections in dialogue with field experiences in the design and testing of a biodiversity education toolkit, the BEAT - Biodiversity Education and Awareness Toolkit.
The seminar will also present an invitation: an open call to interested education services and schools to test the BEAT toolkit through a collaborative process.
